Beyond the ordinary
Southern Heart Home Care & Transportation, LLC was established in December 2025 by Tameka Williams-Strickland, a dedicated healthcare professional whose passion for caring for others began more than two decades ago. Tameka became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in December 2000 while still in high school, where she was given the opportunity to enroll in a nursing assistant program.
From an early age, Tameka dreamed of becoming a Registered Nurse. However, life presented a different path. Shortly after high school, her father suffered a stroke and later experienced kidney failure, requiring personal care assistance. This experience strengthened her passion for helping others and gave her firsthand insight into the importance of compassionate, dependable care.
While pursuing her educational goals, Tameka became a mother and faced the challenge of balancing family responsibilities, work, and school. After learning that nursing clinical requirements would require her to leave her full-time job, she chose an alternative path that allowed her to continue supporting her family while still serving others. She earned an Associate Degree in Healthcare Administration and later a Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Management.
Tameka continued her commitment to helping individuals by joining Johnston County Public Schools, where she became a certified Exceptional Children (EC) Teacher working with students with disabilities. While working in education, she continued providing home care services part-time, allowing her to maintain her connection to the healthcare field she loved. Committed to lifelong learning and professional growth, she eventually returned to school and earned a Master's Degree in Special Education, further strengthening her ability to advocate for and support individuals with diverse needs.
Through both healthcare and education, Tameka discovered a common purpose: helping people live fuller, more independent, and meaningful lives. Inspired by her love for serving others, she founded Southern Heart Home Care & Transportation to provide compassionate, dependable, and personalized care to individuals and families throughout Johnston County and surrounding communities.
Although she was raised and currently resides in Wayne County, Johnston County has become a place where she spends much of her professional life and has developed strong community connections. The name Southern Heart reflects who Tameka is at her core—a person with a genuine Southern heart and a passion for caring for others.
